We are delighted to share the exciting news that our team has won the prestigious DGDA Mosque Competition, organized by Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Co. This esteemed architectural design competition attracted numerous talented architects, showcasing innovative and sustainable approaches to Islamic architecture.
Our winning design aims to enhance the architectural landscape of Diriyah, a region renowned for its rich history and cultural significance. By blending traditional elements with modern sustainable construction techniques, our project reflects a deep respect for Islamic architectural heritage while embracing contemporary innovation.
Recognizing Excellence
The winners were unveiled during the annual Diriyah Suhoor at the picturesque Bujairi Terrace, set in the historic Wadi Hanifah. This announcement marks a significant milestone for our team, underscoring our dedication to architectural excellence and our commitment to promoting local creative talent.
Site and Context Analysis
Our winning design achieved success by meticulously analyzing the site’s alignment along the north and west axes. We prioritized these directions for the site's entrance to create a strong initial impression and facilitate seamless interaction. This strategic decision significantly influenced the placement of the mosque.
To optimize the site's functionality, we divided it into three distinct zones: the mosque, a private house, and public services. The private house was strategically positioned on a secondary street to ensure privacy, while the public services were located to maximize accessibility and foot traffic. Gender separation was thoughtfully addressed through the design of an arcade, ensuring a respectful and harmonious environment.
Concept Narrative
The design concept of "Bab Al-Rahmah Mosque" starts with its main entrance, symbolically and artistically embodying the prayer "اللهم افتح لي أبواب رحمتك". This design seamlessly integrates with the traditional Najdi architecture and reflects the local culture of Diriyah. Serving as the gateway to prayer and spirituality, this entrance continually reinforces the significance of embracing Allah's mercy in worshippers' lives.
